The Problem
There are fewer resources available to Black Canadians and there is a recognizable void in the creative industry and few platforms in which Black creatives are showcased or celebrated. Systemic racism in Canada extends into the creative industries due to the lack of resources, support, and acknowledgement of Black projects.
There is a strong need for funding into Black projects for Black people by Black people. In order to serve the community properly, the Canadian government should provide more resources so that Black Canadians are included in the acting and cinema industries.

Studies show that 34% of Black Canadians start businesses to fill a market void of lack of diversity.
45% of Ontario respondents cite a lack of access to professional networks as a major barrier to employment.
In 2016, 22% of the population identified as belonging to a visible minority group and 5% identified as Indigenous, making equitable access and representation a major issue in Canadian film and television.
