Community Programming
Our division The Black Academy demonstrates a positive tangible benefit to Black Canadians through four main initiatives: programming, scholarships, training and recognizing and celebrating Black talent.
Skills Development Program
The goal of The Skills Development Program is to amplify emerging and current Black professionals in the screen-based industry and to foster growth through immersive high caliber real-world training, mentorship, networking and general knowledge sharing. This unique transformative development platform will help increase capacity and representation in the Canadian media industry as a whole. This one of a kind program is in partnership with Insight Television.
Performance Slam
This program inspires young students to build their legacy with their voices. It provides the opportunity to jump-start a career in show business and offers fundamental resources to take them to the next step. This competition is currently being developed into a television series with Insight Productions and Bay Mills Studios.
The Black Academy Summit
A 1-day multifaceted conference for emerging and established Canadian entertainment industry professionals and students striving to enhance and elevate their careers. This is being produced by Access Canada who produces several of Canada’s largest and most renowned B2B industry conferences.
Write Your Legacy
This program supports the development of BIPOC Canadian writers, and will be supported by Telefilm and Creative BC.
